Student Government Day 2008

Student Government Day 2008 was a great event for all involved! The students did not hesitate in taking swift action as city officials. The day started with a tour of Hager Hinge Company where the students learned the impact of industry on our local economy. Then it was off to City Hall for the student takeover! The student City Council scripted their own resolutions and spent taxpayers money quickly to renovate the high school track and rezone property. Other students involved had the opportunity to complete job shadowing for their elected positions.

Under the loud sound of sirens, student police officials quickly raided the high school campus to arrest two faculty members. The faculty members where quickly booked and charged - one for student discrimination, the other for pollution and littering. Then, it was off to the courtroom for the drama to unfold. The student led prosecution and defense teams got to work calling witness after witness to the stand. City Judge Leslie Rogers did not hesitate in challenging the jurors to weigh all the evidence and reach a verdict. The jury in both cases found the defendants guilty as charged and imposed stiff life in prison sentences. Faculty member Grady Lacher made a mad dash for the door, but couldn't quite escape the fast student officers. The events of the day were brought to a close over a steak dinner with various city officials and Mayor Leon Smith.
