Track off to a fast start

Oxford High School continues to have one of their best track and field years.
The Oxford Varsity Girls team has finished in the top 7 in every major track invitational in north Alabama this season. The past two weekends they have taken home two runner up trophies to Oxford. They are currently the 4th ranked track team in class 6A in the State of Alabama. (They have improved from last years 29th state finish as a team!) The Lady Jackets have two individual STATE leaders in the rankings: Leah Sparks leads the state in the 100m with the fastest time of 12.60. Lilly Barboza leads the state 6A in the Discus with 112’00”. They also have the 2nd fastest 4 X 100 Relay in 6A with a 49.92; 4th fastest 4 X 400 Relay in class 6A 4:09.55. Other top 8 individual state ranked athletes from Oxford include: Kamiriel Wall 5th 200m 26.76 and 6th 400m 1:00.18; Lilly Barboza 3rd shot 37-02.25 and Kristen Stringer 4th shot put 34-08.25. The lady Jackets look to put on a strong showing in the Calhoun County Track Meet this Tuesday and Wednesday to be held at JSU beginning at 2:15p.m each day.

The Oxford Boys team is led by Markeic Ridley ranked 12th in 6a in the 400m 51.98 and 9th in the state 6A 800m 2:03.37; Derrick Webb 9th in 6A Discus 127-01 (new school record) and Quinton Johnson 10th in 6A in Discus 126-11 and 11th in 6A in the shot put 44-11.50.
