Announcements Week of March 31, 2008

OXFORD CHOIRS WILL PRESENT "A 50's DINER NIGHT" tonight, MARCH 31 AT OHS - AT 6 P.M. TICKETS ARE $12 FOR A COMPLETE BARBEQUE DINNER (CATERED BY BETTY'S). PROCEEDS WILL SUPPORT THE CHOIRS ON THEIR WAY TO STATE COMPETITION! TICKETS ARE AVAILABLE FROM ANY CHOIR MEMBER OR MRS. MCCALL. SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL CHOIRS!!!

There will be a Government Day Meeting afters chool on APRIL 1st in Mrs. Whisenant's room for the following: Mayor, Council Members, City Attorney, Public Defenders, Judge, Court Clerk, and City Clerk. This is a MANDATORY MEETING.

Also, All students involved in government day will attend the APRIL 8th City Council Meeting at 6:00. Student government day is APRIL 9th.

SHOW CHOIR WILL PRACTICE TUESDAY 4/1/08 FROM 6-8:30!!!!

Any student interested in attending a "Summer Camp" at Jacksonville State University, please pick up a flyer from the counselors with information concerning the different camps available.

Auburn University is offering several one-week camps this summer, such as Architecture; Building Construction; Design Workshop; Engineering Tigers I and II; Musical Theatre; and, World Affairs Youth Seminar camps. A flyer with information on each camp has been placed on the Counselors' bulletin board outside their offices. Please stop by and take a look and get contact information, if interested.

Scholar's Bowl practice will be in room 408, Ms. Baker's room, from 2:45-3:30 today, March 31.
Any junior or senior who would like their date card or another picture frame from prom should go to Mrs. NeSmith's room (415) before or after school.

JSU math placement test will be given Tuesday, April 1st at 12:45 . Location 1st floor media center. Bring 2 sharpened pencils. No calculators allowed.Practice test available from your math teacher.

Mrs. Walker from Gadsden State's Educational Talent Search program will meet with students during their lunch periods on Wednesday April 2nd.

National Honor Society meeting Wednesday, April 2 at 7:00 am in the lunchroom. This meeting is for current as well as new members. Ms. Houston

The Jostens Representative will be here on April 2nd to do a class ring presentation to sophomores. He will return during lunch on April 3rd to take orders for the class rings.
Sophomores & Juniors: On Saturday, April 19th, at 8:00 a.m., UAB is sponsoring a "UAB Day for Sophomores and Juniors." There, you will discover the advantages and innovative opportunities UAB offers. I have a scholarship application which will award 1 boy and 1 girl $1,000 to attend Gadsden State CC – Ayers Campus through the Oxford Rotary. Please get applications from Mrs. Angel.

I have Kiwanis Club scholarship applications in my office. Three $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to OHS seniors. Mrs. Angel

The University of Alabama's 2008 Capstone Business Leadership Academy will hold two summer sessions for academically excellent high-school students who will be entering their senior year in the fall of 2008. Students who wish to attend must meet the following qualifications: 3.4 GPA or higher; 27 ACT; 1210 SAT; or 140 PSAT. Students must have an interest in business education and career. The cost is $350.00 per session. If interested, see Ms. Knight for the official website.

10th - 12th: Louisiana State University's School of Architecture and Department of Interior Design are offering a Summer Design Workshop for high-school students interested in Architecture and Interior Design. The workshop is June 8 through June 14, 2008, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. A poster, with more detailed and contact information, is posted on the counselors' door for any interested students to see.

The "Alabama's Governor's School" will be held June 15-27, 2008, at Samford University for rising seniors. This year's program theme is entitled, "American Vision: World View." If you are an academically superior student and interested in this program, see Ms. Knight for further information.
