Oxford qualifies seven for state cross country

TRUSSVILLE — Oxford High qualified four girls and three boys for the Class 6A state cross country meet Thursday.

Running in the sectional meet at Hewitt-Trussville, the Yellow Jackets placed Sarah Burke (21:23), Ryan Green (22:21), Oriana Hancock (23:41) and Casey Freeman (24:27) in the girls’ state meet, plus Dan Futral (17:21), Nathan Thrasher (17:30) and Jacoby Dove (17:56) in the boys’ state meet.

All three boys posted personal-best times.

Mountain Brook won the boys’ sectional with 26 points, followed by Hewitt-Trussville with 27, Homewood with 57, Oxford with 108, Shades Valley with 145 and Gadsden City with 165.

In the girls’ sectional, it was Mountain Brook 15, Hewitt-Trussville 56, Homewood 91, Oxford 99 and Gadsden City 130.

The state meet is Nov. 10 at Moulton.
